You don't have to be an artist or professional photographer to take advantage of the Giclee process! Anyone with a digital file can order a Giclee process print. If you have a valued image, a favorite scene, family shot or any picture that is special to you, then a Giclee will preserve it in a unique quality.
The word Giclee is a French term literally meaning "squirted". It is the common name in the art world for very high quality inkjet printing on to special fine art papers and canvases in limited editions.
Giclee prints are widely regarded as the highest quality reproductions currently available. Special light-fast inks are used in the process, which far exceed fade resistance of normal printing methods. The super fine ink droplets laid down are not visible to the naked eye making images continuous tone in appearance, but taking advantage of digital technology.
When used in conjunction with photography, images take on a depth and feel not normally associated with photographic images.
Giclee is better than limited edition litho. Basically, ordinary litho inks will fade rapidly under daylight conditions whereas the colour pigments in the inks we use will be fade free for at least 50 years in a normal room lit environment and longer still if protected with UV reflecting glass. The other major benefit of Giclee is you can print from one to as many are required on demand, whereas with litho, the setup costs make printing small quantities unviable.
What is wrong with home made inkjet prints? The answer is nothing! Except most consumer home printers use dye based inks which fade rapidly and there are limitations of size and the type of materials that can be printed.
What about standard prints? Yes, we can make prints as semi-gloss and satin finishes. These are also fade resistant as we use the same ink technology as employed in our Giclee prints.
